DJ-ing, announcing credits, introducing sound effects, and keeping the 4-hour show going!!!

When  I  did  my  audio  play,"The 'Made' Rat", I  played the son of a Mafia boss,
played the transitional  music,  dropped in the electronic sound effects, and  announced the closing credits  (Yikes!)
"The  'Made' Rat"  story  is  like the Sopranos meets  the Twilight  Zone.

Labor Day  performance  2002

When  I  was  on  Ibrahim  Gonzalez's  radio program,"In the Moment",
I  noted  that  the   WBAI - 99.5 FM  studios were much more practical and spacious than
the  WUSB  radio  station studios, Stony Brook University, Long Island.
The  only  other  radio station I  got  to see  up close and  personal  was  WALK  in Patchogue.
*  I'd  like  to  thank  Ibrahim Gonzalez  for  inviting me to sit-in and watch him do his fascinating  radio program from time-to-time
Friday  mornings  from 3 am  -  6 am  on  WBAI  - 99.5 FM.

                                                                    The    very   talented    John  Tabacco

John Tabacco is a composer, singer, engineer, multi instrumentalist, graphic artist, co-founder of Sonic Underground,  a successful recording studio in Stony Brook, NY., and CEO of It Iz What It Iz Music Publishing. He has studied orchestration with noted 20th century composer John Lessard, harmony with the
late electronic music maverick Bulent Arel, composition with Stony Brook Music Professor Peter Winkler and received his BA in Music from SUNY in 1983.
In 1987 he oversaw operations at Backdoor Studios in Huntington Station and in 1990 at Modern Voices Studios in Centerport, NY.

Tabacco is also co-founder of Sound Archeology (the cutting edge in analog to digital conversion technology) and has engineered /mixed music for hundreds
of New York based recording artists as well as projects released on such major labels as BMG: The Kemelions, RCA: Faze, Rampage/Rhino: Rhett Forrester, Columbia: Rebbie Jackson, Bob Marley (Rykodisc) and Nickleodeon¹s hit TV kid show Are You Afraid Of The Dark?,and Chris Jasper (Of Isley Brothers fame). Along with Backdoor Records cronies Nick DiMauro and Chris Pati, Tabacco was involved in the creation of the 12" single Go House Yourself. This single (a parody on acid house music with a glorious chain saw solo in it) went to Number 39 on Billboard¹s Retail Dance Sales Chart in November of 1989.
In Italy it went to number 9 on the charts.   A cheesy hand-held video of the song went to number one in Puerto Rico in and around the same time.

In 1999, Tabacco co-produced and arranged the CD Re-Inventing The Wheel with ex-Zappa guitarist/ author Nigey Lennon. This collaboration brought
Tabacco to the attention of master big band arranger Ed Palermo. Subsequently Tabacco sang lead vocals from 2000-2003 with the Ed Palermo Big Band.
The group performed many successful concerts at NYC's The Bottom Line until the clubs demise.

Summer of 2002 saw Tabacco, along with Nigey Lennon and Frank Zappa's sister, Candy Zappa, fronting a band at the famed Zappanale in Bad Dobern,
East Germany. With some classic Zappa numbers and many Tabacco originals the group's performances were well received by the European crowd.    2003
saw Tabacco arranging music for Sony mega - producer Corey Rooney and his brother Jeff for projects involving, Toni Braxton and her sister Tamar.
Also in that year Tabacco signed an independent record deal with Blake Seal's company sumthindiffrent.com/  The company released a re-working of the JT
CD "It's Out There Feeding On Itself" under the title: "Realized @ 21 Walnut". Favorable reviews of this CD are staring to roll in as college radio starts to pick
up on the Tabacco musical universe.

Like an unfolding musical diary / puzzle, Tabacco¹s music and art are constantly being re-worked, juxtaposed and intertwined. They reflect the happenings going on in his life at the moment. Studio recordings are constantly in progress. His style is a melding of pop-jazz-rock-avant garde/aleatory, classical and comedy. A feature in Keyboard Magazine¹s Discoveries column (issue 1/88) lists his main musical influences as: The Beatles, Frank Zappa, Steely Dan, The Firesign Theatre, Thelonious Monk, Brian Wilson, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Stravinsky and his small group of musical collaborators.
